Product requirements document (PRD)

Definition: A product requirements document (PRD) describes what a product or feature should do, who it is for and why, so the team can design and build it.

A typical PRD covers the problem, target users, goals and non-goals, success metrics, requirements, user stories, open questions and risks. It is a living document that changes as the team learns.

Modern PRDs tend to be shorter than traditional specifications, focusing on the problem and outcomes and leaving room for the team to find the best solution.
