Product management glossary

Product discovery

Definition: Product discovery is the work of deciding what to build by understanding customer problems and testing ideas before committing to delivery.

Discovery includes customer interviews, analyzing feedback and usage data, prototyping and running experiments. Its aim is to reduce the risk that the team builds something nobody wants or can use.

Continuous discovery runs alongside delivery, so the team is always learning rather than doing research in one big upfront phase.
