Outcome-based roadmap

Definition: An outcome-based roadmap is organized around the results a team wants to achieve, such as reducing churn or increasing activation, rather than a list of features to ship.

Instead of saying 'build a new onboarding wizard in Q2', an outcome-based roadmap says 'increase week-one activation from 30% to 40%'. The features become hypotheses about how to reach the outcome, and the team is free to change them as it learns.

Outcome-based roadmaps tie closely to OKRs and a north star metric. They make it easier to explain why work matters, but they still need a link to the concrete releases that deliver the outcomes so stakeholders can see progress.
